Implementing the Enhanced National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Service (CLAS) Standards

OhioMHAS and the Multiethnic Advocates for Cultural Competence (MACC) are partnering to provide trainings across Ohio focused on the implementation of strategies to promote health equity. Attendees will receive guidance on developing leadership capacity in health care organizations for promoting and sustaining CLAS. This training provides recommendations to health care (including behavioral health care) organizations for addressing language and other communication barriers to adequately meet the needs of people with limited English proficiency and provides a blueprint for establishing community engagement. Lastly, recommendations on conducting community assessments will be covered. See their website for more information.

Participants will:

  • Understand the history of the CLAS Standards
  • Describe the imperatives for implementation of CLAS Standards
  • Examine possible strategies, resources, and tools for implementation
  • Evaluate agency effectiveness in providing culturally and linguistically competent care
