Pat Stephens, is a Director at the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Master’s in Education Spring Arbor College. She has Mental Health experience and 22 years in the (DD) field. Pat is a member of the Lucas County Human Trafficking Coalition and involved with (PATHS) Project through the HTSJI at the University of Toledo.
Steve Mentrek, is a Program Director at Bittersweet Farms. M.A. in Recreation Therapy and Leisure Administration from University of Toledo. Steve has 15 years of experience assisting DD individuals to integrate in the community and those who have been trafficked to feel safe, remove barriers, and identify areas of limitations.
This training will focus on the sex and labor trafficking of individuals with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Learning Disabilities (LD). We will explore why these populations are becoming more vulnerable to traffickers. Risk factors, signs of victimization and how Human Trafficking affects individuals physically and behaviorally will be discussed. Information will be provided on how to develop and establish protocols, and supports within the DD and education systems. Real life cases and investigation processes will be reviewed. Finally, participants will learn about resources to be utilized to assist victims on the path of recovery.
