Human Trafficking and Vulnerable Populations

This training will focus on the sex and labor trafficking of individuals with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Learning Disabilities (LD). We will explore why these populations are becoming more vulnerable to traffickers. Risk factors, signs of victimization and how Human Trafficking affects individuals physically and behaviorally will be discussed. Information will be provided on how to develop and establish protocols, and supports within the DD and education systems. Real life cases and investigation processes will be reviewed. Finally, participants will learn about resources to be utilized to assist victims on the path of recovery.

Objectives:

  • To inform the community that Intellectual Developmental Disabled and Learning Disabled individuals are being targeted for human trafficking.
  • To describe risk factors of human trafficking within the IDD and Learning Disabled population.
