Psychiatry has experienced a rapid metamorphosis over the past two decades in its methods of treatment. The use of new medications and new additional uses for older medications are ever changing and evolving at what appears to be warp speed.
We will examine the most recent and the most commonly used psychotropic medications for children, adolescents and adults, with an emphasis on children when possible. We will discuss antidepressants, antipsychotics, stimulants, mood stabilizers, anti-anxiety medications, and time permitting, sedative/hypnotics. Additionally, we will discuss the issue of polypharmacy in children and adolescents.
