Everyone's an Asset Builder

Research by the Search Institute has shown there are 40 Developmental AssetsŪ that all young people need to succeed.  Developmental AssetsŪ are common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible adults. Studies consistently show that the more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors and the more likely they are to thrive. The average young person experiences fewer than half of the 40 assets. Boys experience three fewer assets than girls (17.2 assets for boys vs. 19.9 for girls).

Developmental AssetsŪ have many sources, including adult influence, peer influence, families, neighborhoods, congregations, schools, and youth organizations.

So how can you build assets in today’s youth?
