Join us for a 3K run/walk to burn off some post Thanksgiving meal calories. All ages are welcome.
Proceeds for this event will benefit the Comfort Food Pantry.
Nearly three decades ago a handful of Immanuel Church ladies acted upon a need in the community to create the fore-runner of what is now the Comfort Food Pantry. These ladies became keenly aware of many parents who were struggling to feed their families. The group solicited local businesses for help, asked church members to donate canned goods, and used monetary contributions to purchase baked goods from the bread store in Kerrville. Food was packed in boxes and delivered to families who needed a helping hand.
This outreach program has grown considerably over the years, and today nearly 80 boxes are filled with food every other Tuesday. Volunteers drive to the Daily Bread Ministries in Boerne twice a month and to the San Antonio Food Bank monthly to pick up food. Other volunteers fill the boxes and approximately half are delivered to families in the community and the remainder are picked up at the Lutheran Church.
Any funds received by the Comfort Food Pantry are through donations of canned goods or money. Monetary donations are used to purchase items from the San Antonio Food Bank. In addition to the regularly scheduled Tuesday distribution dates, boxes of food are occasionally delivered to a family when there is immediate need. Please contact the church if you would like to help.
