Explore and discover pond organisms and live vertebrates! In this course we will begin by collecting and observing organisms from a local aquatic habitat. The students will learn about the diversity of life in a typical aquatic ecosystem, then take their pond finds back to the classroom to examine more closely under a microscope. Since each organism has unique adaptations, we will be able to speculate about the function of the array of features we notice. The organisms caught in the pond will be supplemented with live vertebrates. Students can explore and discover independently and at his/her own pace. Students need to wear tennis shoes, non-restrictive clothing for outdoor exploration and bring a bottle of water.
