Friday Afternoon Session One:
AA. Money Talk for Your Child Care Center; John D. Hilcher, CPA, PC
In this workshop you will receive a CPA’s view into how to prepare budgets and income statements for your program. We will look into how to standardize financial and economic reporting making use of accounting programs such as Quick Books and Excel. We will discuss methods on how to strengthen economic and accounting controls in your program thus making your center run more efficiently. You are encouraged to bring copies of your programs financial statements or most recent tax returns for discussion.
BB. Infection Prevention in Child Care; Irwin Stromeyer, Sterile Space Infection Defense
We will discuss why the “old” two step method of disinfecting is no longer effective in the spread of disease. Join me as I discuss the “new” three step method as well as what can be done for long term infection prevention.

Directors wear many hats as the captain of their ship. This workshop will teach at least three techniques to handle challenging staff and parents and to motivate staff to contribute.

Learn how to use music to make learning fun in your classroom. You can enhance your curriculum with music using instruments, fingerplays, transition songs, participation activities, songs that teach concepts and so much more! Come and enjoy this hands-on workshop and leave with the joy of music!

Learn how to take a parent’s perspective when dealing with “difficult” parents. Various parenting styles will be discussed and you will learn methods to work with each of them. We will explore strategies to successfully form partnerships within your program.
B. Creating Resilient Learners; Monica Levy, Director, Leap Smart
As preschool educators, we can establish a foundation of resilience that will set students up to be successful listeners, communicators, and flexible learners. We will discuss specific strategies that will help you understand how to build a resilient mindset in your students. We will share targeted games and activities that form the template for resilience and inspire young minds to become stronger!
C. New Jersey’s Early Intervention System … helping infants & toddlers with developmental delays, Jennifer Blanchette McConnell, PhD, IMH-EŽ IV-Clinical Mentor
What do you do when you are concerned about the ongoing development of an infant or a toddler? Do you have a child in your class that is losing previously acquired skills or just does not seem to be progressing in his or her development? Who do you turn to? What do you do? The New Jersey Early Intervention System can assist you. Their goal is to partner with families and caregivers to better support a child’s development.
D. Messy but Meaningful Activities for your Classroom; Jackie Weiss & Fatima Pidany, Lead Teachers, Kangaroo Kids Learning Center
Come join us for a hands-on, fun-filled, messy experience! We will be showing you ways to create your own paint brushes to help engage children in fun and messy play. We will also be giving you creative ideas on how to promote fun learning through messy experiences.
E. Developmentally Appropriate Practice & Early Literacy; Cynthia Terebush, CPC, CYPFC, Consultant
In the current educational climate, demands are being placed on teachers and children that may not be developmentally appropriate. We can ask for more learning at earlier chronological ages but that doesn’t change the rate at which children will develop the skills that they need to succeed. We cannot force children who aren’t developmentally ready yet to read and write. What are appropriate expectations for preschoolers? This presentation includes the indicators that children are actually ready to write and practical examples of how to encourage children to build upon their early literacy skills in an age appropriate and engaging way. Attendees will be given ideas and shown examples of preschoolers’ child-centered early literacy activities that encourage skill development, a love of learning and are developmentally appropriate for the range of learners in the classroom.

What do you do when your “gut” tells you that a child in your care may have special needs? When does a concern become a delay that requires further evaluation? How do you approach the parents? In this session we will explore how to navigate this very sensitive and common situation.

In this workshop, we will explore how our emotional relationships with infants in our care allows them to learn, develop trust, and understand the world around them.
