Meet Victoria Cochran

Topic: "Managing Performance"

 Victoria hails from Denver, Colorado, and is thrilled to call Jacksonville, Florida, her home. She has spent more than 20 years in the corporate U.S., working with both global and domestic teams. Her passion? Transforming and evolving leaders responsible to an increasingly complex and diverse workforce. 

Prior to joining RS&H’s Jacksonville headquarters, Victoria held leadership positions with Boeing’s Jeppesen brand and Coors Brewing Co. 

Presenting: Managing Performance” 

Whether working within a business environment or managing home and family, strong leaders manage performance every day. For them, it is about commitment to showing up each day with goal of bringing the very best out of their direct reports. 

Workplace surveys and generational data show us that decision to manage performance is no longer optional. Performance feedback, continuous dialog, and collaboration are requirements for companies wishing to hire and retain talent. 

Part 1: Everyone Leads 

The word ‘leadership’ continues to takes on additional meaning as our ecosystem becomes more and more complex. Playing ‘leader’ requires ability to wear multiple and ever-changing hats. When to manage, coach, direct, or even take no action has become key to influencing performance. We will explore context as relates to each role, and assist you in pulling off your own hat trick! 

Part 2: The Motivation Myth 

There exist a number of theories supporting motivation as relates to behaviors and performance. Many of these theories are somewhat contradictory; still, related case studies have shown commonality in terms of what tends to keep employees satisfied. We will examine those commonalities, and will also explore why it is more important to avoid de-motivating others than it is to motivate them. 

Part 3: Practice Makes Perfect 

We have all heard the saying practice makes perfect, yet sometimes it feels like nothing we do brings us the desired results. Perseverance becomes key. By creating a personal set of guidelines based on your own strengths and weaknesses, you can better respond to challenging situations. Remember: Being effective at performance management means willingness to get uncomfortable. And like anything, comfort will come with practice.
