Leaders as Coaches

Join ASTD of Southwest Florida on Wednesday, April 16th at Keiser University for a unique program that will start promptly at 11:30 a.m.

Leaders at all levels are under pressure these days to meet aggressive organizational goals and objectives. Regardless of the business, investors are demanding increased shareholder value and Boards are demanding:

Stronger bottom-line performance
Increased market share
Higher product or service quality
Lower cost of doing business
Higher customer satisfaction
High levels of employee engagement
High employee retention

Some think achieving these results falls on the back of senior management, when in fact every level of leadership has a responsibility to achieve these goals through their own people. No one function in an organization can be responsible for overall results, it takes everyone.

Many recent studies point to recruiting, training, and developing human capital as the core of an organization’s success. Coaching is now a priority for leaders at all levels within an organization, thus enabling their employees to achieve organizational goals.

In the discussion with members of the Southwest Florida Chapter of ASTD, we will explore coaching techniques that employ conversations such as:

Ask, Don’t Tell
Truth Talk
In the Moment Feedback
Reframing the Picture

Attendees are encouraged to share “stories” of how they have applied some of these conversations within their organization.

We will also discuss ways to evaluate the ROI of assets applied to raising the level of competence of “leaders as coaches”.

Learning Objectives for this event:

Gain a better understanding of the coaching role all leaders must perform.
Understand why attaining coaching skills result in better operational results.
Gain some level of competency in various coaching conversations.

Bob Freiburger is currently the Senior Vice President, Talent Development for Lee Hecht Harrison’s Southeast Region. Bob serves as Executive Coach to a number of senior executives in a wide variety of industries and is the Master Coach to 60+ coaches in his region.

Bob began his career as a production engineer in a Buick plant in Flint, Michigan after receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University). As an Air Force officer for five years in the 70s, Bob added Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Business to his education and led an aircraft electronics operation at McGuire Air force Base in New Jersey.

Following his military service, Bob served in ascending levels of leadership in engineering, manufacturing, and general management in the fields of fiber optics, semiconductors, night vision devices and aircraft instruments. His last industrial role was that of President of an aircraft instrument company in Philadelphia.

Bob’s career conversion came in 1990 when he decided to become an entrepreneur and started his human capital consulting firm in Charlotte, NC where he grew his base to four offices in NC and SC. After much pestering, he agreed to be acquired by Lee Hecht Harrison in 2000 and has served in leadership roles since.

Bob has three children, a CPA daughter in Raleigh with three wild little boys, a daughter in real estate in Ft Myers, and a filmmaker son in Los Angeles whose Doritos ad was just named the “Best Super Bowl Ad of All Time” in a CBS poll.

Bob and his lovely “southern-belle” wife, Virginia, live in Estero and just celebrated their 34^th wedding anniversary.
