Unlocking Health & Happiness with Lessons from Neurobiology 

Learn about neurobiological concepts relevant to all individuals, no matter where you/they fall on the mental health continuum in this 3-hour training, which takes a deeper dive into concepts presented at our 2021 Fall Conference by Licensed Counselor and Certified Trauma Practitioner, Libby Murdoch! This training will be offered online via zoom.

In the past decade, the neurobiology of trauma informed care has grown inpopularity and in practice. This training explores how we can leave a legacybeyond being trauma informed, by examining how concepts in neurobiology canhelp us and our clients achieve true psychological freedom from recreating, reenacting,and re-enforcing outdated narratives and programing from our past. Thetraining is based on the belief that a simple idea can create so much change, andintroduces well known concepts in neurobiology in a way that is easy tounderstand and provides direction for how to implement this new knowledge towith simple action steps to enhance health and happiness.Topics that will be explored in the training include: how we are hard-wiredfor survival, and how that wiring impacts our need for connection, the role ofcognitive and feeling based strategies in achieving wellness, and how to createand maintain positive feeling states. These concepts are relevant to individualsanywhere on the continuum of mental health, even those that don’t struggle withmental health issues.

Participant outcomes/learning objectives: 1) Participants will learn how our neurobiology was designed to promotesurvival and explore how these conflicts with cultural perspectives ofmental health. 2) Participants will learn the neurobiology of how different therapeuticinterventions impact the brain and translate to individual change. 3) Participants will learn simple action steps they can implement to increasehappiness and well-being for themselves and their clients.

TRAINER BIO: Libby Marlatt-Murdoch, LPCC, LICDC, CCTP-II, CTRTC, Owner/Operator of Brain Based Counseling & Consulting. Elizabeth (Libby) Marlatt-Murdoch is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor, dually licensed in North Carolina and Ohio. She has been practicing in the field of mental health since 2013. Libby is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional specializing in treating Complex Trauma and is also a Certified EMDR therapist and trainer. Libby specializes in topics in neuroscience, including resilience, relationships, self-care, trauma, and addictions. She focuses on techniques based on brain science in treatment, including EMDR, and believes in educating and empowering her clients. As a published author and experienced trainer, Libby has a passion for making neuroscience accessible to clients and other clinicians in the field.
