Trauma and the Brain: Using a Developmental Approach to Address the Challenges of Early Life Trauma 

Please join us as we bring back Bette Lamonte, a 2018 Fall Conference speaker, for a rich, inspiring, experiential training in the work that has brought relief to thousands of children & adults struggling with the effects of early life trauma.  Neurological reorganization can assist with Developmental Trauma Disorder, Attachment Disorders, Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum issues,  Traumatic Brain Injury, Learning Disabilities, and Behavior Challenges.

Presenter:  Bette Lamont, MA, DMT, Certified Counselor, State of Washington, Certified Neurological Reorganization Practitioner, International Consultant in children’s developmental issues, Director of Developmental Movement Consultants.  Bette has worked with children's and adults' developmental trauma issues throughout her career and has been a Neurological Reorganization Practitioner since 1987. Bette gained experiences as a teacher, parent (birth, adoptive and foster), therapist, and consultant.. She sees clients, teaches, consults and lectures nationally and internationally in schools, prisons, daycare centers and hospitals. 

During this training, participants will: 

• Learn the process by which the brain integrates itself in the first months of life and how a rich sensory/motor environment in these months lays the foundation for full brain integration over the lifespan.  

• Recognize key sensory and motor milestones or normal development at seven different levels of the central nervous system.

• Understand the consequences of any form or degree of trauma or developmental interruption as these affect learning, social, attention and physical skills.

• Be able to create environments that enhance the normal neurodevelopmental process in the classroom.  Also, participants will learn how to encourage specific motor activities that prompt brain organization in infants. 

Note:  This course is not designed to create individualized solutions for children with challenges, nor to diagnose or evaluate children.   

Topics that will be covered:

Critical sensory and motor activities that characterize normal neurological development.  

Emphasis will be placed on the neurodevelopmental consequences of trauma, but participants will also learn the consequences of skipped developmental stages in academic, social, physical and behavioral maturation.

Role of Trauma, illness, head injury, drug exposure and genetics on the child’s growing skills

How cultural shifts have created a rise in learning, attention and behavior challenges

How to create environments that support the infant and very young child

How to provide classroom or group activities that enhance learning, attention, and behavior
