Trauma and Dissociation 

 

Description: "Trauma and Dissociation" is an introductory level course on the continuum of dissociative disorders.  Participants will learn to recognize symptoms, develop an understanding of the disorder and learn potential treatment options.  Resources to enhance learning will be provided.

Objectives:

1. Participants will learn to recognize hallmark features as well as more subtle features to recognize when a client may be presenting with a dissociative disorder

2. Participants will understand how disorganized attachment and chronic abuse set the stage for development of a dissociative disorder.  In addition, details regarding how clients may present and where they can stall in therapy will be discussed.

3. Participants will be learn several treatment techniques to assist clients in the recovery from a dissociative disorder.

Trainer: Dawn Hinton, M.Ed., LPCC, NCC
Dawn Hinton has worked as a school counselor for 17 years and owns a limited private practice in Florence, Kentucky where she mostly serves clients with trauma related disorders and anxiety.  She is trained in EMDR, hypnosis and reality therapy, and belongs to the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation, for whom she also conducts trainings.  Dawn also serves as an adjunct instructor at Xavier University.  Overall she is best known for her work in helping students, clients, and budding counseling professionals reach their maximum potential.
