Casey Joseph, a Performance Improvement Specialist for Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA will take us on a journey to learn how Lean and Six Sigma methodologies can successfully be applied to clinical problems to improve patient outcomes. Some may be skeptical that you can apply Lean and Six Sigma measurement and improvement tools to the “art of medicine,” however, over the past four years Berkshire Medical Center has been doing just that. From reducing pressure ulcers and improving hand hygiene to improving heart attack treatment, we are saving money while improving patient outcomes and employee satisfaction.

Casey Joseph has 17 years of healthcare quality experience, with 7 years experience with the NYS Cardiac Surgery Reporting System and the last 10 years in hospital performance improvement, regulatory compliance and risk management. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a focus in Epidemiology, a CPHQ and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and uses the Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes, gain better staff engagement, and decrease the amount of time needed by using rapid cycle changes to test change.
