Leo Herrmann's Bio
Leo considers himself a professional chimney sweep, has been in this field since 1985 and worked his way up to the general manager position of a full-service chimney sweeping, masonry, construction, repairs, and retail fireplace and stove company. In recent years, he guided his firm to multiple years of award-winning service with steady growth. his job duties included selling, installing, servicing, and trouble-shooting wood, gas, pellet, and coal burning appliances. One entire year of my working career was at Fort Dix Army Base, New Jersey installing and designing commercial/industrial Category II gas venting during the bases renovations prior to 9/11.
He personally performed thousands of Level I and II Chimney Inspections in accordance with NFPA 211 Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances. The inspections were performed while designing installations for our company’s installation crews and himself. The necessity for the inspections has provided him access to thousands of homes for resale inspections. He was inspecting chimneys for NFPA 211 compliance for many years prior to the addition of the Inspection Chapter introduced in the NFPA 211’s 2000 edition. Through his career, I personally performed over 40,000 chimney sweeping services, inspections, and appliance pre-installation inspections.
He been assigned to assist in hundreds of structure fire investigations in a total of 20 different states and his company specializes in fireplace and chimney related forensic investigation consultations. While assisting cause and origin investigators, insurance carriers, law firms, and local government officials, he has reconstructed hundreds of fire-damaged structures. During the course of this work, he has developed skills providing litigation support for attorneys and working with other industry experts and utilizes hands-on experience as an installer and knowledge of components as an installation designer to assist in forensic investigations. His background provides valuable information regarding mechanical installation and construction sequence. This “hands-on” experience is vital for identifying if a necessary part or component is missing, improperly built or installed, serviced or inspected.
