Dr. Beer as Ebenezer Scrooge in Detroit Mercy Theatre Company's 1977 production of "A Christmans Carol."

Celebrating a Career in Art with Art Beer

Recently retired professor of theatre, Arthur J. Beer, Ph.D., stars in the title role of Joseph Zettelmaier's "Ebenezer." Following the performance on Sunday, Dec. 8, join the Department of Performing Arts and Detroit Mercy Theatre Company as we recognize the career of one of Detroit's most beloved actors and directors.

Sunday, Dec. 8 at The Marlene Boll Theatre

  • 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Strolling reception with drinks
  • 6:30 p.m. Special announcements
  • 6:45 - 8 p.m. Roast of Dr. Beer

The celebration reception is FREE! Tickets to "Ebenezer" are not required to attend the event, but we do encourage you to purchase a ticket and see Dr. Beer perform in the title role!

During the event donations will be required in any amount to partake in adult beverages, strolling hors d'oeuvres and an opportunity to roast Dr. Beer.

Cash and checks will be accepted, Venmo transactions will also be available. All proceeds will go to our theatre program fund.

Express your gratitude to Art Beer!

We need your letters and videos.

We encourage everyone to write a letter to Dr. Beer to express your gratitude, offer a memory of your time with him or to give him a piece of your mind. We will also be accepting video recordings as well.

All videos and letters can be sent to theatre@udmercy.edu.  Or, bring a letter to the theatre at the night of the celebration. The celebration is not a surprise for Dr. Beer, your letters and videos are!

Some recordings and letters may be read during the roast at the discretion of the Department of Performing Arts. Donations to the theatre program fund will be helpful in your request.
