VJJA 2017 Fall Institute

 Empowering Communities through Partnerships 

The Virginia Juvenile Justice Association will again sponsor the Fall Training Institute for juvenile justice, private provider and public agency professionals who provide a wide array of services to court-involved youth and families. VJJA has held the premier state-wide training event annually for 41 years of the association's 50 year history.

Agenda: A full agenda will be available soon.

This year's theme: Empowering Communities through Partnerships. The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Sam Hemilstien presenting on the impact of trauma on the developing and teen brain and how to effectively utilize the professional relationship to encourage positive outcomes. Plenary speaker Doug Reavis will present on the Silent Strength: Motivational Positivity and Kindness training with focus to keep reaching for every child. Plenary speaker Paul Mellor will present on the Power of Memory with focus on how to remember everything. The training event also includes multiple breakout sessions.

Venue:  The Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center located at 2371 Carl D. Silver Pkwy Fredericksburg, VA will be the location of this year's event. A limited number of rooms are available at a discount conference rate of $91.00 (plus tax) per night. Two nearby hotels will provide blocks of rooms for our event: Homewood Suites by Hilton (king rooms only) and Hampton Inn and Suites Fredericksburg (double rooms only). Make your hotel reservation by using the links below. The hotel deadline for the guaranteed rate is October 16, 2017. If making your reservation by phone, be sure to reference Virginia Juvenile Justice Association. (Hotel rate may increase 10/1/17 per GSA regulations.)

Participant Registration:  Pre-registration is required. Registration is open to members and non-members. The two-day conference rate for members is $100.00. The non-member rate is $120.00. Single day member registrations are available for $55.00 and $75.00 for non-members. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CONFIRM YOUR MEMERSHIP STATUS BEFORE REGISTERING. Checks and money orders are to be mailed and made payable to VJJA. Return checks will be assessed a $35 fee. When paying by check, separate checks are preferred for registration and dues. Attention DJJ Employees: DJJ employees are responsible for following DJJ travel and training authorization guidelines. Further inquiries will be directed to DJJ for instruction.

Networking:  In addition to formal learning opportunities, participants will be afforded multiple opportunities for relationship-building with other professionals working with court-involved youth from across the state. VJJA President Samantha Higgins will host the annual President's Reception for participants to meet and get to know the VJJA leadership. A networking social will be held later in the evening. Multiple opportunities to network and build resources with the exhibitors will also be afforded.
