CR's Holiday Production of "BABES IN TOYLAND"

Students are invited to join us for a very special holiday production of the musical favorite, "Babes in Toyland". Set in the mythical world of Mother Goose rhymes, this show will delight audiences, both young and old.

The villainous Barnaby has fallen in love with sweet Mistress Mary Quite Contrary.  If he can’t buy her love, then he’ll force her to marry him by threatening to foreclose on her mother, the poor Widow Piper.  Mary already has her heart set on marrying Barnaby’s nephew Alan — but not if Barnaby can help it!  He hires two bumbling ruffians to do away with Alan, but Alan returns to Mother Goose Land amidst much rejoicing.  Mary journeys to the mysterious Toyland through the dangerous Spider Forest.  But wait!  Barnaby hasn’t given up, and he herds the whole gang of Mother Goose Land characters to Toyland in pursuit of Mary.  There we encounter the magical mystery of Toyland as we meet the Master Toymaker and his quirky assistants Grumio and Marmaduke.  This charming musical tale through the worlds of Mother Goose Land and Toyland will delight audiences.

CASTING PROCESS:
Principal and supporting roles will be determined by audition. This will occur at (or immediately after) the first rehearsal. The cast will read through a major portion of the script, and students will take time reading for parts they are interested in. The directors will be looking for vocal volume, inflection, character, a positive attitude, and how well the student can take direction. There will also be a musical component to the rehearsal. Students interested in roles with significant singing requirments may be asked to sing for the music director. Students do not need to come with any prepared material. All casting decicions will be emailed to families by the evening of 10/17; memorization assignments will be made for the following rehearsal on 10/19.

We ask our families to please take time to discuss casting decisions with your student. Every role in a musical production is important, just as every player is important on a basketball team. While we cannot guarantee that the student will be given the part they desire, we do promise that it will be a fun, engaging learning experience for them.

TICKET POLICY: **Please Read**

Our tuition cost is far below what other comparable theatre programs charge in the Lehigh Valley area. Income from tuition does not come close to covering our actual program costs. In order to keep our tuition cost as low as possible, each student will be required to sell a minimum of 10 adult tickets (or the total ticket value of $100) to either/both performances. For families with siblings enrolled in the program, the first child will be responsible for 10 adult tickets (or a $100 value), and each additional child will be responsible for 5 adult tickets (or a $50 value). If the required ticket sales have not been reached by 12/5, the family will be responsible for the balance.

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:

- Tuition and registration fee is non-refundable and cannot be applied to other programs.

- Every student will be cast in the production. It is important that each student understands they must be willing to accept whatever role they are given. Younger students will likely be given minor roles, but will be kept engaged and involved for the majority of the production. Our directors put great effort into making sure each student, regardless of their assigned role(s), are active and engaged for the majority of the production.

- Attendance at all rehearsals your student is scheduled for is mandatory. With such a short production window, each rehearsal is crucial. Even if the cast member is ill, we would suggest they sit through the rehearsal and take notes on any blocking or choreography. Even one missing cast member in a scene makes everyone's job more complicated.

- Camp Rhythmo strives to create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment for our students. To this end, discipline problems (of any kind) are not tolerated. Discipline issues will result in a student being dismissed from the production; a refund will not be issued.

- Please note that we are investigating the possiblity of securing a larger performance space for the dress rehearsal and final performances. This is TBD. Regardless, all rehearsals will be at Faith Lutheran Church/Parker Hall, 3355 MacArthur Road, Whitehall, PA 18052.

Registration Notes:

If registering more than one student, you will need to supply a different email address for each registration submission.
