BEC Indiana Outdoor Technical Seminar (Purdue University Project Site Visit)

Technical Presentation Content: This event will show the real-world application building enclosure concepts on an active construction project. The event will consist of an introduction and three demonstration stations including:

Building Enclosure Coordination & Commissioning (Introduction): The Building Enclosure consists of any materials that are constructed to separate the exterior and interior environments. On a modern construction site, this can include several different materials, manufacturers, contractors, and design partners. Pepper will provide an overview of the project and the team’s approach to coordinate the building enclosure details.  Purdue has started to invest in building enclosure commissioning, including the whole building air tightness test.  Purdue will discuss the value they have found in this process, and the Commissioning Agent will discuss their perspective.

Station 1 – Masonry & Flashings: The project includes brick masonry with limestone accents and the necessary drainage flashing materials. IMI and Hagerman Construction will discuss the basics of a masonry wall and detail key points for flashing installation.

Station 2 – Roof to Wall Transition: The project includes a fully adhered roof membrane with spray foam under the “mansard” roof areas, and several tie-in points to the air barrier on the walls. Pepper and Smither roofing will discuss the roof system installation and tie-in detailing at the roof to wall transitions.

Station 3 – Wall to Window Transition: The project includes gypsum sheathing with a factory applied air barrier and architectural punched openings along with a few curtainwall elevations. Tremco and AGM will discuss aspects of these two systems and detail how they are joined together at the wall to window transition.
