Keynote Speaker - Rex HohlBein

Founding Executive Director, Facing Homelessness

Rex Hohlbein is a practicing architect in Seattle Washington, working as the Principal of Rex Hohlbein Architects since 1987. Born and raised in Seattle, he studied at Washington State University, receiving his Bachelor of Architecture in 1982.

In 2011 Rex Hohlbein began the Facebook Community page ‘Homeless In Seattle’ as a photo-journal project to build community awareness for those living without shelter and other basic needs. Through the sharing of photos and personal stories he highlights the unique beauty of each person, asking the viewer to break through the negative stereotype against those living on our streets. The 'Homeless In Seattle' site currently has over 12,000 followers, representing forty-five countries. It is a project under the nonprofit 'Facing Homelessness' of which Rex is the Founding and current Executive Director.

Event Emcee - Amy Walen

Mayor, City of Kirkland

Kirkland City Mayor, Amy Waken, has been instrumental in the City’s economic and infrastructure development. She began her first term in January 2010 as a Council Member and was re-elected in November 2013 when she was selected to serve as Mayor for a two-year term beginning January 2014.

Originally from Oregon, Mayor Walen attended University of Queensland in Australia, graduating in 1990. She practiced law in Australia until she returned to Oregon in 1994. In 2005 she met her husband Jim and later they moved to the Kirkland area. She is currently the chief financial officer at Ford Hyundai of Kirkland.

Mayor Walen has helped organizations such as Hopelink, Evergreen Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees and Kirkland Interfaith Transitions in Housing. In 2013, the Alliance of Eastside Agencies, a professional membership organization of human service providers, honored Amy Walen as the Elected Official of the Year.
