Literacy Skills for Early Readers

Wednesday, February 11th

5:00pm-7:00pm

Facilitator: Rob Podlasek

This exciting new training will guide you through the most important skills of learning to read and give you the strategies to help students excel in these critical areas.  For many of us, it is hard to remember what it was like when learning to read and we sometimes forget how challenging it can be!  This workshop explores key early literacy skills including letter names, letter sounds, blending and segmenting letter sounds, rhyming and much more.  By the end of this workshop, you will better understand how children learn these skills and will be prepared with activities to review and practice them with students in your tutoring sessions.

The training is located at John A. Johnson Achievement Plus Elementary at 740  York Ave. You may park in the large lot and walk up the main stairs (next to the handicap ramp) to enter through the door. Please do not use the door on the right of the parking lot, as there will be no one there to let you in. Once you enter the building, there will be signs posted to direct you to room 2113.

Light snacks will be provided but please feel free to bring any other food you may need.

Tutor training is open to any volunteer or program staff member working with young people in St. Paul.
