Literacy Skills for Early Readers

Tuesday, October 21st

6:00pm-8:00pm

Facilitator: Rob Podlasek

This exciting new training will guide you through the most important skills of learning to read and give you the strategies to help students excel in these critical areas.  For many of us, it is hard to remember what it was like when learning to read and we sometimes forget how challenging it can be!  This workshop explores key early literacy skills including letter names, letter sounds, blending and segmenting letter sounds, rhyming and much more.  By the end of this workshop, you will better understand how children learn these skills and will be prepared with activities to review and practice them with students in your tutoring sessions.

The training is located at SPPS District Headquarters (360 Colborne St, Rooms D&E). See the map at the left for more details. Please allow yourself plenty of time to find the building, it can be a bit tricky. Free parking is available in the lot next to the building. Enter the building at the main entrance. Once in the building follow the hallway to your left past the elevators to reach Rooms D&E. Signs will be posted to indicate the room.

Light snacks will be provided but please feel free to bring any other food you may need.

Tutor training is open to any volunteer or program staff member working with young people in St. Paul.
