Monday, September 29th
3:00pm-5:00pm
Facilitator: Rob Podlasek
This exciting new training will guide you through the most important skills of learning to read and give you the strategies to help students excel in these critical areas. For many of us, it is hard to remember what it was like when learning to read and we sometimes forget how challenging it can be! This workshop explores key early literacy skills including letter names, letter sounds, blending and segmenting letter sounds, rhyming and much more. By the end of this workshop, you will better understand how children learn these skills and will be prepared with activities to review and practice them with students in your tutoring sessions.
The training will be in the Selby Conference Center, which is inside of the Administration doors on the Selby Avenue side of the building. Attendees can enter those doors and head straight back, looking for signage to the room which will be past the elevators on their left.
There is street parking all around the building. Additionally, there is parking available in the YWCA Health and Fitness parking lot. However, the attendees of the training need to enter the Administration doors off from Selby next to Moscow on the Hill/across from WA Frost. Additional parking information and directions are avilable here.
Light snacks will be provided but please feel free to bring any other food you may need.
Tutor training is open to any volunteer or program staff member working with young people in St. Paul.
