The Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation is pleased to offer Tutoring Basics training. The Foundation’s Tutoring Basics training focuses on important strategies that all tutors can use to successfully work with youth. The training introduces tutors to using a tutoring session structure, goal setting, good questions, encouraging language, reflection techniques, and much more. Content is presented through the lens of youth development. This training is designed to help any tutor be intentional and skill-based in their tutoring sessions with youth.
The training will be held at Davis Court in Markim Hall at Macalester College. (Campus map can be found here. We'll be in building #48). Markim Hall is the building on the northwest corner of Grand & Snelling.
Free Street parking is available on Macalester St or Lincoln Ave. Free [arking is also available in a lot behind the Fine Arts building (about 2 blocks from Markim Hall). To access the lot head south on Macalester St from Grand Ave. Follow Macalester St until you are forced to turn right- you will end up in the lot.
To reach Markim Hall from the parking lot go north on Macalester towards Grand Ave. Head right on Grand Ave towards Snelling. Markim Hall is the building on your left, nearest the corner of Grand & Snelling. Davis Court is on the first floor once you enter Markim Hall.
Light snacks will be provided but please feel free to bring your own food as needed.
Tutor training is open to any volunteer or program staff member working with young people in St. Paul
