The Hawaiian Humane Society is an education and advocacy organization that shelters, protects, rescues, reunites and rehomes animals. It is Oahu's only open-admission shelter that welcomes all animals. Established in 1883, this non-profit organization is not a chapter of any group as there is no national humane society. Gifts made directly to this independent, local organization help local animals and people. Visit HawaiianHumane.org to learn more.

Animal Hero Service Learning Training Class:
Preparing Students and Youth Groups to Help Oahu's Animals
This is a required class for students in grades 6 through 12 who want to help the Hawaiian Humane Society for a school or club project or to earn service hours. Students will identify their project and receive continuing mentorship upon class completion. Please note: This class does not prepare students to do hands-on work with shelter animals. Click here if you want to volunteer directly with the animals and do not need service learning hours for your school.

Class highlights

  • Animal Welfare 101 - Gain knowledge on key issues facing Oahu's companion animals.
  • Service Learning in Your Community - Learn and identify service projects that you will do in your community. Includes an overview of the Society's role, responsibilities and needs.
