Smart is not Easy: What Research Says about Highly Capable Learners with Austina De Bonte, sponsored by NWGCA
This presentation will cover the latest research and neuroscience about highly capable learners, informing the most pressing concerns students are facing at home well as in the classroom. We’ll discuss the social-emotional characteristics of HiCap learners, ranging from perfectionism and twice exceptionality to grit and executive function difficulties, as well as the recent neuroscience that is helping explain where these characteristics may be originating, giving us big insights on how best to support students.

Meet the Filmmaker: On Giftedness, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Non-Fiction Storytelling with Marc Smolowitz, sponsored by NWGCA and THE G WORD FILM
Washington State and Northshore School District are prominently featured in the upcoming new documentary titled "The G Word." This talk will discuss the Washington state stories in this exciting full-length film and share how the final editing of the film is coming together. Director Marc Smolowitz will also speak about the importance of bringing diversity, equity, and inclusion into all aspects of his work as a storyteller and how he is doing this specifically with THE G WORD. NWGCA is a proud partner of The G Word Film and will donate 50% of the proceeds from this event to The G Word.

College Suggestions for Gifted PNW Students with Amy Estersohn, sponsored by NWGCA
When it comes to finding a college, fit is important, and each student's search is unique. Some students thrive in an environment where academics are the focus, and other students are looking for a school where they can begin building career skills right away. Some students crave access to nature, while other students want to be surrounded by a city environment. Some students will be able to advocate for themselves, while others may be looking for people and programs that support their collegiate success. College advisor Amy Estersohn will review some of the important criteria in a college search and suggest 18 schools that may fit the needs of the students and families in the session.
