Does My Research Require IRB Review?

Facilitator: Brenda Kolobara, Research Compliance Officer, Office of Research and Creative Activity, University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Abstract:  We will cover the IRB process including a review of what is considered “human subject research” for IRB purposes, and who needs IRB approval. This presentation will review what is exempt from IRB review, and what issues are evaluated in an IRB proposal. The presentation will offer some tips for beginning the IRB submissions and tips for a smoother approval process.

About the Facilitator: Brenda Kolobara is the Research Compliance Officer for the University of Nebraska Omaha. She is responsible for UNO’s research integrity and compliance program, and for the coordination of institution-wide initiatives to prevent, detect, and respond appropriately to compliance risks. Brenda acts as a liaison and works collaboratively with the UNMC/UNO Institutional Review Board, and also serves as a non-voting consultant at IRB meetings.
