NE STEM 4U - A Journey In Three Parts

Wednesday, November 4th, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM CDT

This is an online event. A Zoom link will be sent to you after you RSVP.

Abstract/About the Facilitator:

Before joining the Molecular Microbiology and Microbial Pathogenesis PhD Program at Washington University in St. Louis, I completed my B.S. in Chemistry and a M.S. in Biology, advised by Dr. Tapprich at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. During my time at UNO, I had the great fortune to participate in NE STEM 4U – first as a mentor and then as the graduate advisor. Though initially drawn to the organization for what it offered to me, I quickly discovered my passion for STEM outreach and found myself to be incredibly professionally and personally fulfilled from the work we were doing. Sharing my passion for sciences with the students through hands-on experiments granted me with a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the vastness and all-encompassing nature of scientific exploration; ultimately, the time spent mentoring local students solidified my passion for biomedical research and was a key reason behind my decision to pursue a PhD in the discipline. Beyond that, my role as a graduate advisor enabled me to collaborate and learn from the team of professionals whose coordinated efforts execute the NE STEM 4U mission. The skills I obtained through my involvement in the organization were invaluable during my time as a student at UNO and my experience has informed my continued passion for STEM outreach initiatives.

About the Series:

We welcome all, (but especially undergraduate and graduate students) to the Wednesday Programming Series. The STEM TRAIL Center supports undergraduate and graduate student professional development, including areas of career preparation, networking, and a journal club focused on equity in STEM.

We generally meet on Wednesdays from 10:00 AM -11:00 AM.
