IRWA Chapter 48 May Luncheon

Topic: Understanding Alberta's Evolving Energy System and Emerging Projects.

Speaker: Sami Abdulsalam - Director, Transmission Projects at Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO)

Description: Alberta is best known for its development of oil and gas resources, however our province also boasts an increasingly diverse energy portfolio and an intricate system of transmission and distribution lines to ensure that this power reaches consumers.  With a significant shift in how Alberta will be managing its energy needs on the near horizon, we have invited Sami to discuss the different sources of energy (renewables, coal, nuclear. etc ), how they will contribute to our province's profile and how this will impact the existing infrastructure and drive new development in Alberta.

Presenter Information: Sami joined the AESO in 2008 as a Senior Engineer with the Transmission Division. Currently, Sami is the Director, Transmission System Projects where he is responsible for overseeing the progression of transmission system projects. Sami has 20 years of experience in the areas of power system planning, protection, as well as instrumentation and control systems in the oil and gas industry. Sami graduated with a bachelor of science degree in electrical power and machines, and a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta. Sami is a Professional Engineer registered with APEGA, Past Chair of the IEEE IAS/PES Northern Canada Chapter and is actively involved with IEEE Power System Voltage Stability, Protection and Dynamics research and development activities.

Please join us at the Palliser on May 30th, 2016 as we welcome Sami Abdulsalam!
