Where & When

This event will be held at Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems at 10 Chatham Road in Summit, NJ on Wednesday, March 6th & Thursday, March 7th (offered twice for convenience). The program will start at 10:00 AM & conclude at 3:00 PM.

This seminar examines a wide variety of important processing technologies, and offers an objective technical overview introducing participants to methods of both improving current operations and utilizing new process technologies. It is recommended for anyone in the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries but may also be beneficial to anyone handling dry powders, including scientists, engineers, production and manufacturing personnel, researchers, formulation scientists, product development and process transfer personnel. The program is being offered twice to give attendees more flexibility so please select the date you prefer to attend – March 6 or March 7. There is no cost to attend this seminar; however online registration is required and limited, so sign up soon. The program will begin at 10:00 AM and conclude by 3:00 PM; lunch & refreshments will be provided.

The program also covers ingredient feeding, material handling via pneumatic conveying, compaction, granulation and screening. Compaction is used to produce dense granules from lighter finer powders. This process improves flow properties, increases bulk density and reduces dusting. In a typical compaction application, multiple steps are used to create the desired particle size distribution.

The process begins with dry powder being fed into a compactor that applies pressure to create dense powder flakes. These flakes are feed into a granulator to break the larger sheets down into granules. Granule size is controlled by a retaining screen below a slow speed rotor. The granules are then classified using a screener. Finer particles pass through and are pneumatically conveyed back to the compactor for recycling while the desired granules can screened off and collected.

In addition to the compaction system demonstration which also illustrates pneumatic conveying, a separate display will showcase high accuracy feeding technologies for Loss in Weight feeding of difficult powders.

Hosokawa Bepex Pharmapaktor - a highly accurate, powder roll compactor designed for pharmaceutical, food and chemical applications.

The Hosokawa Bepex Flake Crusher - a slow speed, coarse granulator with a variety of screen options and rotor gap settings to control granule size and minimize fines

K-Tron Feeder - K-Tron offers a wide variety of single and twin screw gravimetric and volumetric feeders. With exchangeable screw design choices, you can handle a wide range of applications involving prefeeding, feeding or batching.

K-Tron Pneumatic Conveying – The sanitary P-Series Vacuum Receivers provide solutions for difficult conveying applications, with a sanitary design the food and pharmaceutical industries. Depending on conveying rates, models include P10, P30 and P100.

Virto/Elcan Screener - Through the use of two unique technologies, Virto/Elcan offers high performance screening solutions that outperform traditional vibratory, ultrasonic, and gyratory machines. Minox tumbler screeners use 3-D motion and unique anti-blinding devices to make high performance separations. Virto systems offer peak resonance energy and high amplitude on the screen surface in wet or dry applications. Both advanced technologies are used to process materials into valuable products and will be demonstrated at the seminar.
