Pharmacy Technician - Fall 2023 Online 

This is a 14-week online Pharmacy Technician course. The need for Pharmacy Technicians continues to grow with demand expected to increase substantially through 2020. Approximately 420,000 technicians were employed in 2018. Employment of Pharmacy Technicians has 7% growth projection each year through 2028.

This program will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to pursue national certification.

Technicians work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other healthcare settings.  This high demand for pharmacy technicians is the result of a multitude of factors including the constant availability of new drugs, the national shortage of registered pharmacists, and the aging population.  

The Pharmacy Technician Program covers the following key areas and topics:

  • Pharmacy Calculations
  • Medical Terminology
  • Skills to read and interpret prescriptions
  • Review of the top 100 drugs
  • Skills to identify drugs by generic and brand names
  • Dosage calculations, I.V. Flow rates, drug compounding, and dose conversions
  • Dispensing of prescriptions, Inventory control, and billing and reimbursement

Education and Certification

  • Students should have a high school diploma or GED
  • The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's (PTCB) is the national certification exam
  • Numerous states now require PTCB certification to work as a pharmacy technician
  • Certain national and state pharmacy technician certification exams are available

 

What to expect:

  • This course is completely online
  • Each week your course will open a new section of material to read and complete
  • You will have from 8:00 am Monday Morning to 11:50 Sunday Evening each week to complete work

Course Contact Hours:

  • 14 Weeks Online instruction
  • Student Tuition: $800 (Textbooks included)
  • If you attended an AR High School or Obtained your GED equivalency through Arkansas you are eligible for the AWC scholarship to pay your tuition
