How is data used in Continuous Improvement (CI), and, how do I use Excel to create a pivot table and run chart?

What will I learn?

This session will provide participants an overview of data fundamentals and hands-on training in creating pivot charts in Excel. The last 30 minutes of the workshop will be dedicated to data coaching.

Who should attend?

Teams who want to be fully prepared for the Continuous Improvement (CI) process.

Are there any prerequisites?

Yes! 'Running with Data' is optional pre-work to the 'LEANing Into Results Based Work' workshop. To jump into this workshop, we ask that teams complete 'CI 101: Introduction to Continuous Improvement'.

What should I bring with me?

Fully charged laptops with Microsoft Excel 2010 or newer (or email us if you need access to one), and data regarding the problem you are trying to solve. Data coaching will occur during the last 30 minutes of the workshop.

Outcomes
Participants will:
  • Understand the fundamentals of data.
  • Identify the types of data necessary to participate in the Continuous Improvement (CI) process.
  • Understand the right chart type given the data and what you would like to show.
  • Complete a pivot table and pivot chart using Excel and sample data.

Participants will have the opportunity to sign up for additional data coaching following this session. Data coaching hours are limited to Wednesdays from 9:00 AM - 11: 00 AM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
