GA Child Welfare Legal Academy

Recent shifts in federal spending policies have signaled an uncertain future for hundreds of federal programs that impact children in the areas of child welfare, early childhood, education, health, housing, and nutrition.  Closer to home, the Georgia legislative session, the Atlanta Journal Constitution identified "children in foster care" among those "left behind by this year's legislation."  Still, many bills were successfully passed that could meaningfully impact the work of child advocates, and the state budget included significant new funding for the child welfare system.  Our next Georgia Child Welfare Legal Academy will feature a legislative update presentation and discussion facilitated by state legislators and policy advocates.  Please mark your calendars and plan to join us on Wednesday, May 17 from 1:30-3:45pm in Room 5E of Emory Law School.  Our Visiting Scholars in Practice will include longstanding Georgia child advocates State Representative Mary Margaret Oliver and Polly McKinney, Advocacy Director for Voices for Georgia's Children.
