The 2012 Education Summit and Region 9 STEM forum will offer a variety of informative and engaging speakers and panelist on the Mobile County Public School System performance data, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education and preparing our students to be college and career ready. The featured keynote speaker is Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, President of University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

We encourage business/industry leaders, education leaders, HR managers and government and civic leaders to join us at the summit on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the USA Mitchell Center from 8:00AM - 3:00PM.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Freeman Hrabowski has served as president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County since May 1992. He graduated at 19 from Hampton Institute with highest honors in mathematics. At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he received his M.A. in mathematics and four years later his Ph.D. (higher education administration/statistics) at age 24.  Dr. Hrabowski is the co-author of several books. Dr. Hrabowski was the keynote speaker for the 2005 Mobile Chamber Leadership (Baltimore, MD). In 2006 he keynoted the 100 Black Men of Mobile Gala. In 2008, U.S. News & World Report named Hrabowski one of America's Best Leaders. In 2009, Time Magazine named Dr. Hrabowski one of the Top Ten College Presidents; recently was featured on NBC award-winning  60 Minutes.

 Dr. Hrabowski serves as a consultant to the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and universities and school systems nationally.  He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society, He also holds honorary degrees, including most recently from Harvard University, Duke University, the University of Illinois, Gallaudet University, the Medical University of South Carolina, Binghamton University, and Goucher College. Hrabowski is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

In 2008, U.S. News & World Report named Hrabowski one of America's Best Leaders.He was also on President Obama's 2008 short list for Secretary of Education. In 2009, Time Magazine named Dr. Hrabowski one of the Top Ten College Presidents.
