DWI Education Program

12 hour

Traffic safety problems caused by persons who use alcohol and drive are well documented. Laws in Texas have been enacted which increase penalties, and require blood alcohol concentration (BAC) for intoxication. Law enforcement uses tools (breath-testing equipment and selective enforcement) to deal with the drinking driver. Courts have realized the seriousness of the DWI offense and have assessed stiffer penalties against offenders.

Article 42.12, Section l3(h),Code of Criminal Procedure requires persons convicted of first offense DWI and receiving probation, to attend and successfully complete an educational program certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Failure to complete the program within 180 days (unless an extension was granted) from the date probation was granted will result in the offender's license being revoked. The license cannot be reinstated until the educational program is completed.

The standardized program is 12 hours in length and is designed to help DWI offenders increase their knowledge about alcohol and drugs as these substances relate to driving skills, to identify their own individual drinking/drug use and driving patterns, and to assist them in developing plans which will reduce the probability of future DWI behavior.

Specific course topics include alcohol/drug and traffic safety problems, Texas laws relating to DWI, effects of alcohol/drugs on humans, alcohol/drugs and driving task abilities, chemical dependency, symptoms of dependency, sources of assistance, costs of DWI, and decision-making.

PLEASE NOTE: All classes are subject to the State mandated minimum. Seats are not guaranteed until class has been confirmed.  Class confirmation status will be listed no later than 24 hours from start date and time. Students are responsible for staying informed of class confirmation and are encouraged to call or confirm the class status prior to reporting.

In the event that a class does not meet the state minimum and is cancelled, your registration will be automatically moved to the next similar time and date scheduled. If you have pre-paid and would desire to receive a refund and cancel your registration instead, please let us know at the time you are informed of the cancellation.

If you must cancel, all cancellations must be received no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time of class. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice and/or that cause the entire class session to be canceled due to dropping below the required minimum are not eligible for refunds but can be rescheduled.

* All students must pay the class fee at the time of registration or no later than the day BEFORE the scheduled start of the class. This is a requirement for the class fee of $100. The fee will revert to $120 if paid on the first day of class. No Exceptions. In the event of a class cancellation or if you must cancel, all cancellations must be received no later than 24 hours from class start time in order to receive refund.
