NJPA's 2018 Addictions Conference
The Opioid Crisis in 2018: What You Need to Know

Program Overview
As the opioid crisis continues to grow, it is vital that all clinicians become comfortable assessing opioid use disorders. We are taking a unique approach with this conference by using the biopsychosocial-spiritual lens to examine and illuminate the diverse aspects of the crisis. Opioid use disorders are not only an individual issue but a societal one, as well. That makes it all the more imperative for clinicians to take a broader view of public health and policy interventions. At the level of the individual, we see the impact of neurobiological disruption alongside psychological and spiritual manifestations. This program will explore these varied approaches as we discuss innovative ways to address the core problem of opioid misuse.

Overall Desired Outcomes
At the conclusion of the conference, attendees will have a deeper understanding of the neurobiological aspects of opioid use disorder and the scientific basis for medication-assisted treatment. They will develop an appreciation for the psychodynamic and spiritual issues that our patients face during active addiction and during their recovery. Attendees will also explore the legislative and political landscape of opioid-related policies, especially as pertaining to take-home naloxone and other harm reduction initiatives.
