Advanced Spanish Immersion for Law Enforcement
- Students will be lodged at the training site for eight days. This course is taught predominately in Spanish and all participants are expected to limit their communication to Spanish for all in class and after hour interactions.
- The course involves reading, writing, translations, and discussion groups conducted in Spanish, as well as homework assignments. The provided text, Mara Salvatrucha, will be the center of daily readings and discussions.
- The students will develop a presentation based upon a law enforcement issue, verbally present it, and answer questions from the group on that topic.
- The students will participate in intense verbal drills involving complex grammatical issues presented in class. Verbal drills are based on relevant law enforcement vocabulary.
- The students will listen to a guest Spanish speaker deliver a talk on a law enforcement issue and participate in a round table discussion.
- If time permits, individual law enforcement scenarios that require complex language skills will be conducted.
