April 2019 Chapter Meeting Luncheon

The Era of Blockchain:

A Summary of Regulation, Issues, and an Overview of Cryptocurrencies

 Speaker: Dan Friedberg

Meeting Description

Bitcoin started with a white paper release on 10/31/2008 by Satoshi Namamoto.  Where are we 10 years later?  What is cryptocurrency?  What are the steps in the legal process of creating coins / tokens?  Who are the regulator(s) involved and what are some of the governing securities laws that are applicable?  What should financial advisors know about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology so we can better advise and educate our clients on this topic?

According to one of Dan’s talks, “We are in the beginning of something that’s revolutionary.  Most cryptocurrencies will fail, but some will be astounding.”

Level of Complexity:  Intermediate

Learning Objective: Help advisors gain a better understanding of cryptocurrencies from a legal and financial perspective.

1.5 hours CFP CE available pending approval by the CFP Board.

Featured partner: Greg Hacker, Open Mortgage - Home Equity Retirement Specialist
