2016 LCOC Western National Meet

ONLINE REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED FOR CARS BUT IS STILL OPEN FOR ATTENDEES, ATTENDEES WITHOUT VEHICLES MAY STILL REGISTER ONLINE, BY MAIL OR IN PERSON UNTIL SEPTEMBER 7, 2016

The Rocky Mountain Region of the Lincoln & Continental Owners Club would like to invite you to the Great State of Colorado for the Western National Meet of 2016.

This year’s meet will be held on September 7-10, 2016 in Westminster, Colorado, just northwest of Denver. During this meet we will visit the historic Stanley hotel, the very same that inspired the Stephen King novel “The Shining.”  Just like in the movie, we will be traveling up to the hotel through the magnificent canyons and beautiful foliage that lead to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Once there, we will be taking a trolley tour of the town of Estes Park and some of the surrounding national forest, as well as a guided tour of the Stanley Hotel.  In addition, a wonderful lunch buffet at the hotel has been arranged. After lunch we will have the unique experience of being able to stage our cars in front of the Stanley for an amazing photo opportunity.  Then on Friday, we will be taking a tour of the beautiful collection of rare and extravagant automobiles belonging to Clive Cussler, the well known author of the Dirk Pitt novels. Later Friday night will be the dinner buffet and auction. Then Saturday is the concourse show meet and awards banquet. Sunday will be photo day.

EVENT SCHEDULE

Wednesday September 7

Registration will be from 12 noon to 7:00 PM. Beginning at 4:00 PM a hospitality & meet and greet function is planned, with a cash bar available until 7:00PM that night.

Thursday September 8

Get some sleep Wednesday night! We're off for an early start Thursday morning! We're headed for a scenic drive to Colorado's historic mountain town of Estes Park. We will form into groups of cars, each of which will be headed up by one of our club members to provide a guide. If there are concerns about using your car for this beautiful drive, a number of our local club members would be happy to have you accompany them in their cars. The only drawback to that is that you will miss the Kodak moment of having your favorite car photographed in front of the famous Stanley Hotel. In any event, it will still be great fun.  Shortly after leaving the host hotel, we will be cruising through the college town of Boulder, taking in views of the turn-of-the-century Colorado University buildings, some dating back as early as 1895. Driving up and over the mountains towards Estes Park should be an adventure into Colorado gold! As we descend into Estes, the town and its inviting lakes lay waiting for us. At this point, the police chief, Wes Kufeld, will be meeting us in his police cruiser to escort us through downtown Estes Park and past all the tourist gathered along the streets. We finish at the Stanley Hotel where the Estes Park car club will meet and greet us, and look after our cars for the balance of the day. From there, we will start the day’s tours. After being arranged into two groups, one contingent will spend about 90 minutes on a historic tour of Estes Park by trolley while the other will be taking a historic/ghost tour of the turn-of-the-century Stanley Hotel. Then the groups will switch so that everyone will have a chance to experience both tours.  By then we'll all be hungry, and an elegant buffet lunch will be served in the beautiful Stanley Music Room. After lunch, drivers may bring their cars up to the front steps of the hotel for those memorable photos of you and your car in front of the historic Stanley. Afterwards, shopping and browsing through the shops and parlors of Estes Park’s finest would surely be the frosting on the cake of this memorable day! Return to the host hotel at your leisure. There will be a sweep vehicle (flat bed) driving our route back at 6:00 PM.

 Friday September 9

This will be a more leisurely day! Leaving the host hotel at around 9:00 AM, we head west on an easy drive to the town of Arvada, following a planned route and club guides. We're going to visit Teri Cussler at her father's prized car collection/museum. Teri, a sweetheart of a gal, has been curator of the Clive Cussler Museum for years. Teri and her resident restorers await our questions and interest in her father's exquisite gathering of the finest motor cars on the planet! These cars are often referred to in Mr. Cussler's novels, as his lead character in the ”Dirk Pitt” novels is also a car collector!   Imagine that....  The only thing missing in this awesome collection is a 4 door Lincoln convertible. Maybe someday....  After visiting with Teri and her guys, we drive a short distance to one of three yummy lunch sites of your choice and order off the menu. They are: The Egg & I ,  Malone’s Family Restaurant and Rib City.....all great lunch stops. Taking a different and shorter route back to our host hotel at your own pace (directions in your meet folder) you will encounter many tempting shopping and recreational opportunities along the way. There will be plenty of time for you to get back for mechanical inspection, car cleaning, or even just a nap, before starting the activities of this fun evening. From cocktail hour to a wonderful southwest themed buffet dinner followed by an auction, the evening promises to be fun and exciting. The auction will not only offer car stuff, but art and unusual hand crafted items the ladies will surely be impressed by.

Let the bidding wars begin...

Saturday, September 10

Show Day. The car show setup beings at 7am and judging will be 10am to 4:30pm. Cocktail hour will start at 6pm and dinner will start at or around 7pm with awards following right after and is expected to go till 10:30 pm. The show will be heavily promoted locally, so expect a huge turnout.

Sunday, September 11

Sunday is photo day for those who won a trophy, and for those who just want a great photo opp. And it is a final goodbye to all those who came.
