Pre-Conference Workshops

MNCASA will be hosting a pre-conference on Monday, June 24, 12:30-4:30 p.m. This half-day pre-conference offers two engaging workshop tracks for attendees to choose from:

Track 1: Racial Equity and Liberation | Nicole Matthews, MIWSAC Executive Director, and Ed Heisler, Men as Peacemakers Co-Executive Director
Are you ready to locate yourself on the path to racial equity and liberation for all? Are you willing to feel uncomfortable as you explore your location? This session will guide participants in an exploration of racial equity and liberation, as it relates to ending gender based violence.

Track 2: More than a Job, More than a Business: Managing Occupational and Organizational Identity | Johnanna Ganz, Ph.D.
Working in anti-sexual violence draws people who are committed, not only to the work, but to the ideas and principles that structure the agency. Yet, few professionals have explored how their sense of self is connected to their work or how the agency’s culture and identity is impacted by the individuals and the movement to end sexual violence. This session is designed to increase participants’ knowledge about occupational identity and its connection to and influence on an organization’s culture and identity. Anyone from direct service roles up to the executive director can benefit from the content presented. Through exploring occupational identity’s connection to mission-driven work and the role that leadership in agencies play in sustaining movements, this session is designed to dig deep into how individuals and leaders can build healthier connections to anti-sexual violence principles. Throughout the 4 hours, participants should come prepared to use tools, discussion, and reflection to identify necessary changes and select strategies to increase competency and responsiveness to the deep connections between occupational identity and organizational culture and identity.
