"The Power of Endowments: Why and Why Not? Ethical and Other Considerations"

Talk Summary: With a panel of fundraising professionals from various types of organizations, Gordon Soenksen will share and explore endowments. We’ll consider why and when endowments are useful to our organizations and donors and why when they are not and we’ll discuss creating the case for our organizations’ endowments. We’ll also talk about honoring and protecting the donors’ interests in creating endowments and the importance of gift acceptance committees. Since one size does not fit all in building endowments, a variety of perspectives will be shared.
Speaker Bio:
Gordon Soenksen is a seasoned advancement leader. Since 1974 he has worked with leading independent colleges and private universities in building advancement programs and planning and managing major campaigns. Three years ago he joined the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro as chief development officer, where he has been involved in fundraising for the Tanger Center for the Performing Arts and Say Yes to Education Guilford as well as the ongoing, daily efforts of the Foundation.
