JOYCE SIMARD, MSW
Joyce received her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College in New York with honors, and her graduate degree from the University of Minnesota. She has been in the long-term care industry since 1978, working with large healthcare organizations providing services for nursing facilities and assisted living communities. She is recognized for developing innovative programs for people with all levels of memory loss.
Joyce has more than 35 years of experience in health care settings as a social worker and dementia care specialist. She currently provides consulting services, staff education, and marketing events to skilled nursing facilities, assisted living and independent living communities. She is also a featured speaker for Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care hospice organizations. Joyce has developed three programs to improve quality of life for people with dementia. “The Memory Enhancement Program” for people in the early stage, The Club for nursing home residents in the middle stage of a dementing illness and Namaste Care™ for people in the advanced stage of dementia.
She is known for bringing humor and a light touch to serious subjects, as she teaches through stories of real experiences from her more than 35 years in health care. She is a geriatric consultant who lives in Land O' Lakes, Florida and Prague, Czech Republic.

CAMILLE PAVY CLAIBOURNE, RN, PhD
Camille is a nationally recognized expert in nursing and management, a healthcare consultant and a former board president of Hospice of Acadiana, based in Lafayette, Louisiana. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for the MBA and nursing graduate programs. She holds a PhD in human and organization development, with emphasis on thanatology, the study of death and dying, and a master’s in organizational behavior, both from the Fielding Graduate University. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
SCOTT E. WILKS, PhD, LMSW
Scott is a Hartford Faculty Scholar in Geriatric Social Work. He is the coordinator for the Gerontology Certificate Program and associate professor at the LSU School of Social Work. He is also a faculty member at the LSU Life Course and Aging Center. He teaches primarily social work research and social work and aging courses. Dr. Wilks received national, pedagogical training at the Stanford University Faculty Development Institute.
Dr. Wilks’ research interests center primarily on Alzheimer’s disease (AD) care, particularly the interactional process of coping and resilience among AD caregivers. His other research interests include burden and adaptation issues among custodial grandparents; social support and resilience among vulnerable, aging populations; and gerontological content in the social work curriculum.
FAYRON EPPS, PhD, RN
Fayron recently completed her postdoctoral fellowship with the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE Claire M. Fagin Fellow 2013-15). She is currently serving in the role as the Chief Clinical Officer for Iberia Rehabilitation Hospital and adjunct faculty with the Louisiana State University Life Course and Aging Center. Her developing area of research involves promoting quality of life for persons with dementia and their family caregivers. Her latest research project explored family involvement in health promotion activities for African American older adults with dementia.
OWEN CARMICHAEL, PhD
Owen received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley and doctorate in robotics from Carnegie Mellon University. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh, and most recently an associate professor at the University of California, Davis. Currently, he serves as the director of the new Biomedical Imaging Center–one of the country's only research-focused biomedical imaging facilities. As director, he provides collaborating scientists with state of the art capabilities for measuring the structure and function of bodily tissues using advanced technologies such as MRI, DEXA, and ultrasound; and expands and develops a multi-disciplinary clinical imaging research team. He also leads a new research initiative that uses MRI to carefully measure the brain's responses to food-related stimuli with the goal of understanding the role that the brain plays in the prevention and treatment of obesity and diabetes across the lifespan.
