Inner Child Work in Client Centred Therapy

The concept of the Inner Child is not new nor is it unique. It has been a part of people's way of approaching forever: we 'sleep like a baby', 'feel like a teen on her first date', or enjoy something with 'childlike joy'; we are 'childish', have a 'temper tantrum', or have to 'grow up'. It is as if people know innately that there are parts of them that aren't fully grown up yet -- and that some of that is just fine while other parts may be getting in the way of healthy relationships, good work ethics, and inner peace.

Using the concept of the Inner Child in psychotherapy can open the client to completely new depths of healing and creating inner harmony. The idea is not to eradicate anything child-like but to determine what part of that inner child-like energy is healthy, and to help the rest to heal, grow up, and become integrated into the whole of the person. Healing on that level is not about coping -- it is about reclaiming a part of life that has been hidden for too long and about becoming more whole.

For the therapist there are many ways to approach Inner Child work. In this course you will learn:

  • How to introduce Inner Child work to clients
  • Some easy to use tools
  • What to look out for and how to deal with difficult situations
  • How to apply Inner Child concepts with other modalities and in everyday sessions
  • How to combine Inner Child work with some transpersonal concepts
  • The reasoning for Inner Child work -- how, when, why?
  • How to hold the energy of the Adult when your client falls into his Little for a period of time
  • And much more
