The OEA and the KEA are proud to announce the Joint 2017 rESPect conference: “Better Together”. After ESP leaders from both states met and discussed the idea of this joint conference, the NEA generously funded this venture. The concept for the conference centers around the idea that if we create opportunities to engage our ESP members in meaningful ways throughout the entire school year, holding intentional conversations and developing relationships, we will better understand their values and interests. We all can then design programs and supports to meet our members’ and their students’ needs, thereby establishing OEA/KEA as a relevant and visible professional union. This conference will assist your local to develop locally based strategies to engage members and stakeholders to create stronger locals. Avenues explored will include using professional development to build relationships and membership engagement, the whole student approach and working with coalitions and community partnerships.  We are asking locals to attend with at least two members, but if you cannot we welcome all ESP members.

The conference cost is $25 to register and if you live more than 1 hour away from the conference it will cover one night (double) occupancy on Friday night at the Hilton Hotel located at 7373 Turfway Road, Florence KY 41042. If you wish to have single occupancy, you will be billed for the difference.  If you complete the entire program you will be reimbursed, through the mail, the $25 registration fee, as well as receive professional development certificates for your sessions.

Once you register online, you will be sent a packet that includes a local union assessment tool, that we are asking attendees to complete before attendance, your hotel confirmation number and roommate name (if applicable).  We are also asking you to bring items that will be given to the Ockerman Elementary School Family Resource Center. An informational flyer that includes the needs of the Resource Center will arrive in your registration packet.
