PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE MBTA’S 2019 CUMBERLAND COUNTY MEETING. Our guest speaker will be Maine Transportation Commissioner Bruce Van Note. Van Note, who was appointed by Governor Janet Mills and confirmed by the Maine Legislature in January, will speak about what is on the horizon for transportation in Maine and at the federal level, as well as the opportunities and challenges MaineDOT faces in the coming four years.

COMMISSIONER VAN NOTE IS NO STRANGER TO TRANSPORTATION IN MAINE. He joined MaineDOT in 1994 and served in various capacities at the department, eventually rising to deputy commissioner where he served for 12 years before joining the Maine Turnpike Authority in 2014 as director of policy and planning. At MaineDOT he managed teams responsible for some of Maine’s most recognizable transportation projects, including the landmark Sagadahoc and Naples Bay bridges. From 2002 to 2014, Van Note participated in the envisioning, drafting and passage of almost every major piece of state transportation legislation. He is a former MBTA board member, former chair of the organization’s Legislative Committee and member of the Topsham Planning Board. He received the prestigious David H. Stevens Award in 2010. He was born in Houlton and grew up in Bath. He earned a B.S. in surveying engineering with highest distinction honors from the University of Maine and a J.D. with honors from the University of Maine School of Law in Portland. He lives in Topsham with his wife Susan and has four grown sons.
