DEEP WATERS: A LOOK AT MARINE CHALLENGES IN MAINE
MAINE’S DEEPWATER PORTS are among our most valuable transportation assets. Our March program will look at developments at one of Maine’s three deepwater ports –Searsport.
OUR GUESTS WILL BE CAPTAIN DAVID GELINAS of the Penobscot Bay & River Pilots Association, and Mr. Burt Russell, vice president of Sprague Energy. David will offer a view of current operations of the Port of Searsport, as well as news of recent port improvements, continuing efforts to dredge the harbor’s channel, which hasn’t been maintained since the mid-1960s, and an update on revitalization of the rail line serving the port.
Burt Russell will provide his insights into the local ordinance (rejected by voters but approved by the Council) banning crude oil exports from South Portland. Mr. Russell will discuss the potential impacts the ordinance may have on non-oil shipping in the state. MBTA members should be interested in the local ban’s potential impact on shipping other types of freight cargo.
JOIN US FOR AN EVENING of lively discussion and networking with transportation leaders.
