  • 1A -  Slant Rhyme and Meter and Voltas, Oh My! Set your Writing Free with Form Techniques: Pushcart Prize-nominated poet Saara Myrene Raappana thinks that writing a poem is like putting together a puzzle - except that the pieces are all the words in the world, and you have no picture to reference.  The techniques used in formal poetry - meter, syllable-counting, rhyme, etc. - can be a great way to bring the pictures into focus, find those vital "corner pieces," and discover exiting new pieces that transform the "puzzle." The exercises will give participants fun, practical skills to generate new, surprising material; polish it into a refined draft; and replicate the process at home in order to begin or enhance their writing practice.  Lead by Saara Raappana, Poet
  •  1B – "Splish Splash: Creating with a Dash"   For artists of all skill-levels and mediums, this hands-on painting activity will inspire you to keep creating long after the session is over.  Lead by Bobbie Alsgaard-Lien, Artist and Professor, Minnesota West Community College
