Fall Forest Stewardship Field Tour

Join us on Friday, September 26th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm for the Fall Forest Stewardship Field Tour!

Starting at the Somerset County Environmental Education Center, the program includes:

  • Registration, Continental Breakfast and Presentation on the many successful programs offered at the Environmental Education Center
  • Board a bus and visit the nearby Raptor Trust, billed as one of the premier wild bird rehabilitation centers in the United States.  Experience the program on "Sharing the World with Raptors" which includes live raptors at the Raptor Trust.
  • Visit the recently planted progeny test orchard of 250 of the most advanced, potentially blight-resistant American chestnut seedlings.  This planting in Stirling Park is the first site for the experimental seedlings in New Jersey and is in cooperation between the EE Center and the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation
  • Luncheon at the Environmental Center
  • Board a bus to the Presbyterian Church grounds in Basking Ridge to see and touch the 600 year-old White Oak Quercus alba Tree
  • Travel to a private forest for a presentation on its management.  This is a client of Gracie Harrigan Forest Consultants.
  • Return to the EE Center to conclude the program
