MoneyWiseTeen Webinar - Online

September 5, 2013

Program Description and Timing
MoneyWiseTeen is a motivating approach to learn about the economic and financial realities of the global economy.

This international award winning web-based program teaches basic economic concepts as outlined in the 1998 History/Social Science Standards in a "credit" context. Ten web-based animated modules illustrate economic principles through stories that are understandable and relevant to teenagers.
  1. Scarcity and Alternatives- Paula and Jerome overspend and learn about scarcity.
  2. Budgeting and Opportunity Cost- Derek and Ginny prepare a budget and learn about opportunity cost.
  3. Credit and the Margin- Martin abuses credit and learns about marginal analysis.
  4. Decision Making- Diana buys a car and learns benefit/cost analysis.
  5. The How and Why of Prices- Ricky Rip-off learns how prices are determined.
  6. Benefit/Cost Analysis- Veronica and Ryan apply benefit/cost analysis to having a baby.
  7. Preparing for the world of work- A high school class learns the importance of developing their human capital.
  8. Saving and Investing- Tara's grandma tricks her into learning about the power of compound interest.
  9. Summary- Miguel and his family struggle with their new life in El Norte.
  10. Miguel learns about alternatives in searching for ways to finance college.
Each module includes questions for students and activities that help students learn with hands-on lessons. The program helps students develop the reasoning skills necessary for economic self-reliance. Once students obtain these skills, they understand that their decisions have consequences and that they alone are responsible for those consequences.
