CANCELLATION POLICY
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Due to rising costs and expenses generated by students who register for our courses and do not attend without notification, it has become necessary to institute the following policy:
In order to qualify for a full refund, students (or their employing agencies) must cancel no less than two weeks prior to the commencement of the course. Cancellations must be received via e-mail to the attention of the course coordinator. A confirmation of receipt and a cancellation number must be obtained from the coordinator. No claims will be accepted unless the aforementioned is adhered to. Cancellations made within the two week time period are subject to a $150 fee. Substitutions of students may be made at any time. Please call us immediately if you have any questions.
NOTE: NO-SHOWS (INCLUDING THOSE WHO CANCEL AFTER 3PM ON THE THURSDAY PRECEDING THE COURSE) WILL BE INVOICED THE FULL REGISTRATION FEE.

 

2023 Administration and Leadership Academy for Law Enforcement Civilians

This workshop is designed as an advanced learning experience for civilian law enforcement employees seeking to build their administrative and leadership competencies. Civilians are a growing segment of the law enforcement community. They have increasing importance in the administration of law enforcement agencies and the management of personnel. This 3-day academy provides intensive, efficient instruction to help civilian leaders elevate their  potential and hone their  skills as reliable and trusted public safety professionals.

Attendees who complete this workshop will:

  • Understand the nuances of law enforcement culture
  • Be able to balance risk with potential rewards in decision making scenarios
  • Know the value of personality diversity in the workplace
  • Learn how to improve internal culture by creating organizational predictability and rhythm

  • Gain confidence in their ability to manage employee performance and discipline

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR


 

John Collins is an author, coach, consultant, and instructor at Critical Victories (www.criticalvictories.com) where he trains, educates, and mentors leaders to navigate sensitive, high-stakes situations through specialized communication and leadership.  For over a decade, John has been a pioneering advocate of improved HR practices in forensic science organizations and the expanded integration of civilian employees into mainstream police practices.  John is one of the most prolific speakers and writers on forensic laboratory management practices in the United States.  His new book, Managing Human Resources in the Forensic Science Laboratory is due for publication by Academic Press in early 2018. 

With over twenty years in forensic science, John has worked in federal, state, and local crime laboratories and is the former Director of Forensic Science for Michigan State Police, where he led Michigan’s seven laboratories to their first ever international accreditation. In 2013, Collins was recognized by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors with its prestigious Briggs J. White Award for excellence in forensic science management.  Collins is a 1992 graduate of the Michigan State University Forensic Science Program, earned his Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management in 2006, and is formally recognized as a Senior Certified Professional in Human Resources by the Society for Human Resource Management.
