Public Information Officer Workshop
This workshop has been designed for Public Information Officers (PIO), social media specialists, law enforcement officers, public safety personnel, and others who represent their agencies to the news media. The focus of the workshop is to provide the students an interactive experience that will allow them to apply their crisis communications, critical interview, and social media skills, as well as explore additional strategies and best practices affecting the PIO. In addition, students will learn the critical roles within a Joint Information Center and apply them during various mock crisis situations.
Students in this dynamic workshop will be exposed to:
• Media relations functions and the role of a Public Information Officer
• Joint Information System / Joint Information Center (mock scenarios)
• Florida’s Public Record Law
• On camera interviews and mock scenarios
• Crisis communications and critical interview
• Writing skills for Public Information Officers
• Social media strategies
• News release and press conference preparation
• Personal critiques and panel discussions
This workshop is being hosted at Univision Studios, located in Doral, Florida. The Newsport Complex is a state of the art, fully operational news studio that also houses Univision Radio, a major radio broadcasting network.
